What Is Interesting Places?

Interesting Places is Sorom’s community-driven discovery feature. Think of it as a collaborative atlas built by real travelers, full of the places that never make the “Top 10” lists. The spots locals know about. The hidden gems that make a trip unforgettable.

Places are submitted by members of the community and reviewed before publication. Check recent details, access restrictions and local conditions before visiting; a submission is not a guarantee that a place is open or safe to enter.

Interesting Places covers every kind of hidden gem:

  • Hidden Gem: places barely anyone outside the neighborhood knows about
  • Local Gem: neighborhood favorites locals return to again and again
  • Historical: sites with real stories, not just plaques
  • Nature: parks, trails, waterfalls, and quiet green corners
  • Art: street art, galleries, and creative spaces
  • Architecture: buildings worth crossing town to see
  • Food & Drink: where locals actually eat and drink
  • Viewpoint: the panoramas that make a city make sense
  • Unusual: the delightfully odd stuff you tell stories about later
  • Cultural: traditions, festivals, and community spaces
  • Religious: temples, churches, shrines, and sacred sites
  • Abandoned: ruins and historic spaces where public access is permitted
  • Underground: tunnels, crypts and other below-ground places with permitted public access

How It Works

Browsing in the mobile app: Open the map on your Home tab and you’ll see Interesting Places clustered across the map. Zoom in to see individual pins. Tap any place to see its details, community photos, comments, and how many travelers have marked it as visited.

Submitting in the mobile app: Found somewhere amazing? Tap the “Submit a Place” button on the map, add a name and description, pick the category that fits, drop your pin, and attach up to five photos. Your submission goes through a review by our moderation team to keep quality high, and once it’s approved it’s live for the entire community.

Community Photos: Already visited a place someone else submitted? Add your photos, up to three of your own per place. Every community photo carries your attribution, so travelers can see the same spot through different eyes. Photos are moderated before they appear.

Interact with Places

Interesting Places isn’t just a map of pins. It’s a social discovery layer:

  • Comments: Share tips, updates, or your experience visiting the place
  • Bookmarks: Save places you want to visit on future trips
  • “Been Here”: Mark places you’ve visited. See how many other travelers have too
  • Edit suggestions: Spotted an outdated detail or a moved entrance? Suggest a correction and our moderators review it
  • Add to Itinerary: Planning a trip? Add an Interesting Place directly to your itinerary as an activity, or let Maya, our AI trip planner, build it into your plan

Earn Points for Sharing

Eligible approved submissions can earn Sorom Points under the rewards terms shown in the mobile app. Check the current rewards and redemption rules before contributing for a specific reward.

Submission limits and moderation help keep the map useful. Share accurate information, respect private property and local restrictions, and only upload content you have permission to share.

You can start browsing Interesting Places on the web or in the mobile app. On desktop or tablet, explore places and plan a manual solo itinerary; use the mobile app to submit a place, add community content and access rewards. Available actions depend on your account and the current feature requirements.

Nearby Discovery

Community coverage varies by destination. Whether you’re exploring your hometown or traveling abroad, just open the map and see what the community has discovered nearby. Places are clustered for easy browsing at any zoom level, so you can get a sense of what’s around you at a glance.

Why Community Discovery Matters

Community contributions can add perspectives you will not find in a standard guidebook. Compare tips with current local information and make your own decisions about what to visit. It’s authentic travel in its purest form: travelers helping travelers skip the tourist traps.

Interesting Places brings community suggestions together in one map. Moderation helps review contributions, but details can become outdated. If an entrance moves or access changes, use the mobile app to suggest a correction.
