1. Our Commitment to Safety

Sorom provides tools that can support preparation, check-ins and communication with configured contacts. These tools have operational limits and cannot guarantee identity, safe behavior, protection or emergency response.

This Safety Policy describes the available tools, their limitations and the community guidelines users are expected to follow.

2. Built-In Safety Features

Review the requirements, permissions and limitations of each mobile safety feature before using it. Keep a backup contact method and contact local emergency services directly for urgent help.

GPS Check-ins

Configure scheduled mobile check-ins and your emergency contacts. Review the current interval options, missed-check-in threshold and notification channels in the app. Reminders and contact alerts depend on permissions, connectivity and service availability. A separate duress PIN can request the configured alert workflow while showing an ordinary response, but does not guarantee that an alert is undetectable or delivered.

Itinerary-Linked Check-ins

Monthly and Annual subscribers can attach a safety check-in to an item on their itinerary, such as arriving at their accommodation or heading out on an activity. Itinerary check-ins are off by default and you turn them on one item at a time, so nothing is scheduled until you ask for it. What is worked out automatically is only the time and the place, taken from the item itself. A missed itinerary check-in alerts your emergency contacts the same way a scheduled check-in does.

Identity Verification

Where eligible, users can complete an optional government-ID and selfie check through Medallion. A badge records the completed process; it does not guarantee identity in every later interaction, intentions or safe behavior.

Panic Button

The panic button initiates an alert to configured emergency contacts with available location information. Delivery depends on permissions, connectivity and service availability. Sorom does not provide guaranteed emergency dispatch or continuous human monitoring. Contact local emergency services directly when urgent help is needed.

Voice-Activated Panic (iOS)

Monthly and Annual subscribers on iOS can set up a Siri phrase that raises a panic alert hands-free, for the times when you cannot safely reach or unlock your phone. You create the phrase yourself in Apple's Shortcuts app rather than in Sorom, and Sorom never stores it; our setup screen only walks you through the steps. Once it is in place, the alert reaches the same emergency contacts as the panic button. This feature is available on iOS only.

Emergency Audio and Video Recording

Monthly and Annual subscribers can enable emergency recording, which captures audio, and video as well if you choose, when you raise a panic alert, trigger voice-activated panic, or enter your duress PIN, so that there is a record of what happened. It stays off until you turn it on, and turning it on requires your explicit consent in the app plus microphone and, for video, camera permission on your device. A recording raised by a panic alert, including hands-free voice activation, is one you start yourself: the app shows a control to stop it, and your device shows its own recording indicator while it runs. A recording triggered by your duress PIN is audio only, and the app deliberately shows no sign of it, so that someone looking over your shoulder does not see that a recording is running; your device's own recording indicator still behaves as your operating system dictates. When a recording completes, we email a secure download link to your emergency contacts, either the contacts you selected for that alert or all of your emergency contacts if you selected none. Download access expires 60 days after the recording session is created. Expired recordings are scheduled for automatic cleanup; temporary service failures may delay deletion, which is retried. You can turn recording off at any time in Settings, and you are responsible for complying with the recording laws that apply where you are.

Meetup PIN Verification

The mutual meetup PIN links an in-person encounter to a Sorom account. It is separate from government-ID verification and does not establish that a person or meeting is safe.

3. Emergency Contacts

We strongly recommend all users set up emergency contacts within the app. Your emergency contacts can:

Manage emergency contacts through the app’s settings. For eligible Annual subscribers, configured contacts may also receive SMS alongside email, subject to delivery and regional availability. Faster response is not guaranteed.
