You know that friend who’s been everywhere and always has the perfect recommendation? The one who says “oh, you’re going to Lisbon? You HAVE to go to this tiny pastéis de nata place in Belém” and it turns out to be the highlight of your trip?

Maya brings conversational planning into the Sorom mobile app. It can help you explore ideas, but its recommendations may be incomplete or outdated and should be checked before you act on them.

What Is Maya?

Maya is Sorom’s AI travel advisor in the mobile app. Access and message allowances depend on the current plan and trial offer shown in your account.

Maya is connected to planning tools that can propose changes to your itinerary. Review the proposed action and any external information before accepting it. The desktop/tablet web app offers manual solo planning and does not include Maya or AI generation.

How It Works

Using Maya is as simple as having a conversation. Open the Maya chat from your itinerary or from a Trip Builder item, and just talk to her like you’d talk to a friend:

  • “Plan a 3-day food-focused itinerary in Tokyo”
  • “Find me a rooftop restaurant near our hotel for tonight”
  • “What’s the best time to visit Sagrada Familia to avoid crowds?”
  • “Add a morning surf lesson to Day 2 of our Bali trip”

Maya can use trip context made available to it, such as itinerary details and preferences. Review the AI data-consent information in the app to understand what is sent for processing.

Action Preview Cards: You’re Always in Control

Here’s something we’re particularly proud of: Maya never changes your trip without asking.

When Maya wants to add an activity, modify your schedule, or suggest a restaurant, she shows you an action preview card. This card displays exactly what she’s proposing: the activity, time, location, and any details. You can:

  • Confirm to add it to your itinerary
  • Modify to adjust the details
  • Dismiss if it’s not what you want

This means Maya is helpful without being pushy. She’s your advisor, and you always have the final say.

She Learns Your Style

The more you use Maya, the smarter she gets about your preferences. She tracks which suggestions you confirm and which you skip, building a profile of:

  • Activity types: Museums or outdoor adventures? Street food or fine dining?
  • Time preferences: Morning person or night owl?
  • Budget patterns: Budget-conscious or willing to splurge on experiences?

Pace is yours to set directly, anywhere from pack-every-hour planner to go-with-the-flow explorer, and Maya plans around the setting you choose.

You can review the suggestions and correct assumptions that do not fit your trip.

What Can Maya Actually Do?

Depending on the feature and available provider data, Maya can help you:

  • Search places and find attractions, restaurants, and activities near any location
  • Build itineraries from scratch or fill in gaps in your existing plans
  • Suggest restaurants based on cuisine preferences, budget, and proximity
  • Manage your itinerary by adding, editing, or removing items through conversation
  • Prepare hotel ideas for Price Check; a request does not guarantee a lower quote
  • Get transit routes with public transport and driving directions to your next stop
  • Look up indicative exchange rates; actual payment-provider rates and fees may differ
  • Show weather forecasts with a 5-day outlook for your destination so you can plan around conditions
  • Find nearby services like pharmacies, ATMs, hospitals, and supermarkets
  • Surface emergency information; independently save the correct local emergency numbers before travel and contact emergency services directly when needed
  • Surface hidden gems from Interesting Places, the community-discovered spots near you
  • Remember your trips so trip memories carry over between conversations for personalized context
  • Analyze photos when you snap a menu, ticket, or landmark, pulling out the details that matter
  • Support voice input for hands-free planning while you’re on the go
  • Search the web for events, festivals, visa requirements, and travel advisories
  • Keep you on top of your trip budget with totals, what’s left, and a breakdown by category
  • Adjust to your trip phase, shifting from planning mode to active-trip mode
  • Recall your preferences across conversations
  • Run schedulable automations for recurring reminders, price checks, and trip reports

Proactive Daily Suggestions

During your trip, Maya doesn’t wait for you to ask. Each morning, she can send you proactive suggestions based on:

  • Gaps in your itinerary schedule
  • What you already have planned that day
  • Your activity preferences
  • Interesting spots near where you are

These suggestions are automated planning assistance, not a local guide or a guaranteed daily service.

Group-Aware Planning

Traveling with companions you met on Sorom? Maya knows. She factors in the group dynamic when making suggestions, considering multiple preferences and finding activities that work for everyone.
